¶Pond Skimming Photos
I went pond skimming in August at the annual Slush Cup. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take a photo of myself going into the water, but I’ve got a lot of photos of other skiers doing crazy things… Here’s the link to the Slush Cup gallery
¶Action Photography
I’ve always felt action shots were somewhat of a weak point for me, so I’d like to share some successes from the New Year’s holiday weekend with you. All four of these were taken at the Mt Baker Ski Area. The first is an unknown telemarker descending The Chute, a double-black off Pan Dome:
Next is a friend of mine demonstrating the depth of the powder on Pan Face:
The last two are jumps made by two of my friends. What a way to spend a weekend!
The lighting conditions were pretty difficult throughout the holidays. I think under the conditions my shots came out fairly good, and I’m happy. I think I’m finally starting to get the hang of action shots, although I still find landscapes to be more cooperative.
¶Winter is almost here...
But not quite here yet. I went skiing, and managed to gouge a good bit of ptex out of my ski using a rock hidden under the snow. I also scared the bejeezus out of a goat when I popped out of the woods. Once he saw me he started sprinting downhill; by the time I got my camera out I only managed to get one picture before he disappeared over a ridge.
I did a fair amount of black and white photography, using saturation curves to enhance the contrast. I think the effect looked good given the cloudy day and low visibility. In the second picture you can see a goat looking away from me. All the tracks visible are goat tracks, not mine.
On the way home, the sky did clear and I took a few shots that show the blue sky. A few were iconic Shuksan photos, but I like this picture of the Herman Saddle. The eye is drawn to the path, away from the large mountains.
